Persons applying here are reviewed with respect to their personal skills and ability to contribute to the Canadian economy. The review is based on a point system where specific criteria are evaluated with points awarded. The criteria include the following:
- Education
- Work experience
- Language
- Age
- Arranged employment
- Adaptability, such as education spouse, close relatives in Canada, previous work experience of at least one year for principal or spouse, previous studies in Canada of at least two years by principal or spouse.
At the moment the threshold for points necessary to qualify for immigration to Canada is 67. However, the point threshold can be changed anytime by the Minster of Immigration and will be retro-active, means will be valid for all applications in process. In addition to the allocated points an officer must be satisfied that the prospective immigrant and his family are not inadmissible and will become successfully established in Canada. An application even with much more than 67 points could be refused if these requirements are not satisfied. On the other side an application could be approved if the officer is satisfied that the prospective immigrant nevertheless could establish himself successfully in Canada.
