Facilitate the reunification of in Canada living permanent residents/citizen with their relatives abroad.
Persons falling within this category must be a member of the family class as defined in the following and must have a sponsor who is Canadian citizen or permanent resident:
- Sponsor’s spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner
- Dependent child of the sponsor
- Sponsor’s father or mother
- Grandfather or grandmother
- A person, who is under 18 years of age and whose parents are deceased, and who is not a spouse/common-law-partner/conjugal partner, but who is either the sponsor’s sibling or nephew/niece or grandchild.
- A person, who is under 18 years of age whom the sponsor intends to adopt in Canada if the subsequent criteria are met
- A person can sponsor one relative regardless of age, if the sponsor has no other close relatives, such as spouse/common-law-partner/conjugal partner or child or parents or sibling or nephew/niece or grandparents or uncle/aunt WHO
- Is a Canadian, citizen, permanent resident or first Nation OR
- whose permanent residence application the sponsor could otherwise sponsor.
The sponsor must reside in Canada (Canadian citizens must reside in Canada latest after finalization of sponsorship application), must be at least 18 years of age, must sign an undertaking guaranteeing responsibility for sponsored family member’s financial needs for a specific time, fulfill requirements with respect to financial and criminal background, and must usually satisfy the officer that he has sufficient income to support the sponsored family members. The sponsored family member itself must satisfy requirements with respect to proof of relationship and inadmissibility.
